Last week I traveled to Monterey, California on business (yes it was a pleasure!) I stayed in a very well-known, luxury hotel overlooking a gorgeous golf course. This hotel had many of the usual amenities: Room service, a huge spa-like marble bath, laundry service, cable TV, even free in-room WiFi.

This hotel was luxurious and comfortable and I enjoyed my (way too short) stay very much.
But…In my opinion, this hotel was lacking a very important feature: Convenience.
When I visited the lobby, or meeting rooms, and even in my room, I wanted information and it wasn’t conveniently available in any one place.. I wanted to browse through services; local Chamber of Commerce websites, schedule a business meeting or reserve a conference room, or even order room service…all without the need to ask, call or stand in line to be helped. What I really wanted was an iPad available wherever possible with the hotel’s software running, allowing me to search, read, schedule or do whatever I needed with information the hotel can provide.
So here’s my system description and wish list for hotels worldwide:
iPad. No need to have it handheld or moved from place to place. Secure it in its own bracket in lobbies, in all rooms, in corridors, even by the elevators. Why not? Securing multiple iPads for guests’ use in the common areas of the hotel would be excellent! Offer them in sitting areas, even in the hotel bars! I’ll spend way more time (and money!) if I have an iPad to play with.
This is what I want accessible on the iPad:
- Hotel restaurants’ location, hours of operation and menu. Option for reservation if needed.
- Room service information, menus and ordering option.
- Hotel services information. Laundry, swimming pools, WiFi, golf, sauna…
- Local area information, with links to Chamber of Commerce – Restaurants, taxi service, attractions, driving directions.
- My guest specific information, rates, self checkout.
- Request for late checkout, extra towels, pillows.
- Rate my stay…Add a hotel review!
Much more information and detail can be added. The list is endless!
Any hotel will benefit GREATLY by mounting iPads in secure and sleek brackets. By tracking guests’ requests, and satisfaction, it allows the hotel to offer impeccable customer service, virtually guaranteeing repeat bookings and 5-star reviews!
So, hotels worldwide, please listen! Today millions of people are using iPads to do just about anything you can imagine. Give us more reasons to do what comes naturally to us all – Give us iPads!
